Al WASL Tower

Developed by Wasl Asset Management Group, the 62-storey mixed-use tower is located along the famous Sheikh Zayed road, opposite the Burj Khalifa. Once completed, it will reach the height of 300 meters. Designed by UN studio in collaboration with Werner Sobek, the tower has the world’s tallest ceramic facade made of clay and low-tech glazed ceramic elements, which helps regulate the internal temperature of the building and reduce the surrounding noise.

Inspired but the classic ‘contropposto’ pose commonly used in classical sculpture, asymmetrical design ensures a balanced yet dynamic appearance that reflects the idea of the city as a lively connection between places, people and cultures.

The facade is equipped with a ‘veil’ of sloping ceramic fins that hide architectural lighting behind. The shape and composition of the ceramic fins will reflect sunlight in rhythmic patterns to give the appearance of a building that breathes. The lighting is programmed as a rhythmic animation that will produce the similar effect.
